With thanks to Jim Woodard

On behalf of Philip Glass, The Philip Glass Center for the Arts, Science, and the Environment, and the entire Philip Glass organization it is with respect that we acknowledge the resignation of Jim Woodard, Days and Nights Festival co-founder, and Philip Glass’ tour manager of 20 years. We thank him for his service and wish him the best on his next chapter.

As it prepares for its ten-year anniversary, the board of The Philip Glass Center for the Arts, Science, and the Environment, which produces The Days and Nights Festival, has begun evaluating its future plans and staffing before it begins to search for Woodard’s replacement.  "We are grateful for all Jim has done over the last 10 years to produce the festival in Carmel and Big Sur. Now that the festival has established itself in Carmel and Big Sur, we want to consider how the next ten festivals will look and what will be needed to carry us into the future—especially since the COVID-19 pandemic has pushed many performing arts organizations including ours into digital programming, which enable us to bring the performances we create in Carmel and Big Sur to a worldwide audience.”

In the last ten years The Days and Nights Festival has brought world-renowned performers, scientists and activists to venues in Big Sur and Carmel that have been attended by thousands of local community members. In addition, through its partnerships with local educational institutions such as the Cinematic Arts and Technology Department of California State University at Monterey Bay, The Glass Center offers special free programs to the community to support youth outreach and to encourage the arts and activism among community members of all ages and backgrounds.

The Philip Glass Center, founded by world renowned and highly collaborative composer Philip Glass, seeks to gather the world’s leaders in art, science, and the environment for an array of interdisciplinary activities including performances, seminars, and educational programs to inspire and to motivate the public to become engaged with matters vital to the future of the natural environment and the quality of human existence. The Days and Nights Festival is the Center’s premiere program towards that goal.
